NZ SECTOR/Coromandel/Kennedy Bay

Kennedy Bay INTEL

Kennedy Bay (Harataunga) is a hidden gem on the eastern side of the Coromandel Peninsula. This is "beach gold" country — a very different style of prospecting compared to the rocky rivers of the South Island.

Stratigraphy & History

The Coromandel was the site of New Zealand's first ever gold discovery in 1852 (at Driving Creek).

Geological Context

The gold here is "marine alluvial" — it was eroded from the volcanic range inland and washed out to sea, only to be pushed back onto the shore by waves.

Field Note

Forget the shovel. Bring a small plastic trowel and a "finish pan" with very fine riffles.

CONFIDENTIAL PRO-INTEL

Verified Sector Secret

"Wait for a big storm. The 24 hours after a heavy easterly gale are the "golden window" where the beach is recharged with fresh gold."

Economic Potential

Historical yield data suggests unrecovered fines at depth. Optimal for small-scale suction or high-banking if permitted.
