A city built literally on top of a fortune. Helena exists because four prospectors on their "last chance" dug a shallow hole and hit one of the richest paystreaks in Montana history.

The Urban Paystreak
Much of the original gulch is now under downtown Helena. However, construction sites and roadwork often expose the original gravels. For water-borne gold, head north to the Prickly Pear Creeknear East Helena.
Sluicing Protocol
Montana gold is notoriously varied in size. Last Chance Gulch produced nuggets, but also heavy amounts of "flour" gold. A dedicated Gold Cube or fine-gold sluice matting is required for maximum recovery here.
